From the echeck webpage: "In your orders template there are notations for each unit telling ECheck how many men and how much silver the unit has. This information allows ECheck to check if your unit has enough silver to survive, if there is enough silver to do any recruiting that you have ordered, to pay the maintenance upkeep for any buildings in the region you command, or if you have enough silver to pay for learning skills (when applicable)."

No, it doesn't.

Twice now in the last two weeks I have lost people due to hunger because of this. I've had enough. Fix it or not, I don't care because I won't be around to see the results.

Are you speaking about the Echeck on the server or a downloaded at home? In the first case from the Rules:

"When your orders reach the game server, they are processed by a simple form of our syntax checker, ECheck. The results of this check will be sent to you, and you should read them carefully. While an English version of ECheck exists, it is not perfect, and inconsistencies between it and the server may occur. Orders which ECheck considers legitimate may be ignore by the server, and vice versa. ... Remember, the English ECheck is not perfect, and may not match what the server will accept."

Also importent is the "siple form" in the first line. Echeck on the server doesn't check for Silver at all, it ONLY checks for syntax!
